Speaking at the British-Brazilian All Party Parliamentary group, Adrian Gregory, CEO Atos UK&I said the summer games will be the most digitally advanced ever to ensure people can enjoy the action on every possible device. This also means that 37 competition venues in Rio will have complete IT infrastructure communicating with over 30,000 media through more than eight-billion connected devices.

Adrian told the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, the Rt Hon John Whittingdale MP, and a group of around 30 cross Party Parliamentarians that, ‘More people are expected to watch the Olympics online than on television.

He explained that Atos has continued to advance the digital delivery of the Games that will allow Rio to be the first ever time the world’s biggest sporting event will be delivered over the cloud.

He commented, ‘Our role is not just to deliver a seamless Games, but also to innovate each year and stay at the forefront of digital technology. Each Olympics Atos delivers breakthrough moments with technology. London 2012 was the most connected Games we had ever run, bringing athletes, media and the public together like never before. The Rio Games will be the first time we will run the technology for the Games in the cloud. This means that we can have a dedicated team who can work remotely.’

The Atos team have undergone 200,000 testing hours involving more than 300 IT professionals managing more than 1000 different simulated Games-time scenarios to complete the tests.
